Prayer – 17 August

Pornography is a huge temptation and force in our world – including for many (men and women) who call themselves Christians. Prayer that we those who follow Jesus will be set free from the imprisoning power of pornography.

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.
Job 31:1

Prayer – 16 August

In a world of music filled with violence, hate, and immorality, pray for new songs to be written that speak hope, truth and meaning in our culture.

Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.
Psalm 33:2-3

Prayer – 15 August

Pray that all of God’s people would walk in God’s light… living out his truth.

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
1 John 1:6

Prayer – 14 August

Pray that we as individuals, OCC and as a church in this city will grasp the things that we fill our minds with that break God’s heart.

Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites,
because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land:
“There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgement of God in the land.
There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery;
they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
Hosea 4:1-2

Prayer – 13 August

It is easy to get caught up in and ignore the violence, immorality and ungodliness of our world. Pray that the appetites of all God’s people would change. Pray as well for those who control and influence the film industry.

Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.
Ezekiel 18:30

Prayer – 12 August

Paul reminds us…

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
Ephesians 5:11

Pray that God will give us wisdom in exposing the darkness and walking in the light.

Prayer – August 11

We live in a world that in some senses is not much different than that in Isaiah’s day. May the people in our world see sin as Isaiah saw it.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who put darkness for light and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Isaiah 5:20

Prayer – 10 August

Pray that we will live in a way that shows our love for those in the family of God.

Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.
1 John 2:9-10
