A Prayer of Charles de Foucauld

Father, I abandon myself into your hands.
Do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you.
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me
And in all your creatures.
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Into your hands I commend my spirit.
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart
For I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,
To surrender myself into your hands, without reserve
And with boundless confidence,
For you are my Father.

— Charles de Foucauld

Reflection:

  • Behold — Where are the eyes of your heart drawn into this prayer?
  • Believe — How is your faith strengthened in this prayer?
  • Belong — Who are you recalling as you pray this prayer?
  • Become — What is God inviting you to receive and thereby become as you pray this prayer?

A Covenant Prayer

I am no longer my own, but yours.
Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you,
Praised for you or criticized for you.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and fully surrender all things to your glory and service.
And now, O wonderful and holy God,
Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer,
you are mine, and I am yours.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it also be made in heaven.  Amen.

May 21 Praying

In Psalm 78:18, the Hebrew people were described as putting God to the test by selfishly asking for meat while they were in the wilderness. Realizing that God has given us much, pray that our hearts will be protected from making selfish requests of God or speaking evil of His graciousness.

They willfully put God to the test by demanding the food they craved.
Psalm 78:18

May 16 Praying

The psalmist said that he had sought God with all his heart. Pray that today that all across Orillia, Canada and this world, followers of Jesus will rise up to passionately seek God with everything that is in us.

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. Psalm 119:10

May 15 Praying

Jesus said it’s the things that come out of our hearts—evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders—that defile us. Pray that as we submit ourselves to Him, we will experience a heart change that eliminates these sins from our lives.

For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Matthew 15:19

May 13 Praying

According to John 13:34-35, the agape type of love we share with one another will identify us as genuine followers of Christ. Pray that selfless love will flow from hearts wherever the body of Christ is… whether we are gathered or physically distanced.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
John 13:34-35

May 12 Praying

Since Jesus told us to go and make disciples of all peoples and nations, pray that we will be obedient – whether it across the street or around the world.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20

May 11 Praying

Knowing that God is gracious in taking care of His children, pray that our hearts will, in turn, be committed to seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33

May 10 Praying

King Jehoshaphat was commended by the spiritual leaders of his day when, after setting his heart to seek God, he removed the Asheroth (idols) from the land (2 Chronicles 19:3). Pray that we will eagerly, publicly stand against and remove the wicked influences affecting this world, and affirm when it is being done.

There is, however, some good in you, for you have rid the land of the Asherah poles and have set your heart on seeking God. 2 Chronicles 19:3

May 9 Praying

God tries our hearts and is delighted when He finds uprightness. Pray that all followers of Jesus will bring delight to God by living honestly and honourably before Him and each other.

I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. 1 Chronicles 29:17
