benediction

May God the Father be our refuge and strength,
May Jesus be our way, truth and life,
May the Holy Spirit lead us out of refuge on a curve to change the world.

walk & pray

I’ve noticed a lot more people walking these days.
As you are walking in

  • your neighbourhood
  • downtown
  • down by the waterfront

pray.

Pray for…

  • God’s blessings on people and businesses
  • protection and health
  • flourishing

Prayer walking is not some sophisticated program.
It is simply talking to God as you walk.

One other thing…

  • smile at people

better yet…

  • greet them

benediction

Hebrews 12: 1-3

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

There is a spiritual perseverance we are called to.
However, life hits walls too. Praying in Gethsemane that God would give him a way out of the cross is a fine example of that.
Jesus got up from that pleading prayer with a second wind and went to the cross, then through the victory tape of resurrection.

Jesus life is an endurance to replicate as we hear him calling us to follow him, particularly through this Coronavirus valley of the shadow.

  • So, be gentle.
  • Be patent.
  • Persevere.
  • We can do this.
  • Love your neighbour!

AMEN

Re-opening OCC building

On 8 June 2020, Premier Ford announced that churches could reopen at up to 30% of their capacity. At OCC we have a team of people who have been exploring how, and when, we can best open our doors. Reopening has to do with much more than a Sunday service in the auditorium, there are lots of details to consider – we are thankful for the work they are doing.

When the time comes to reopen the OCC building that will be well publicized. For the immediate future, we will continue to offer our worship services via video and other activities via Zoom. While the building is closed, OCC is not closed. We are hearing stories of how people are calling one another to encourage and ensure they are being looked after.

The OCC office is closed to walk-ins, but our staff are continuing to work and are available during business hours.

We appreciate your faithfulness, patience and prayer. We are asking God to lead us as a church during this time and to advance his kingdom through us.

Grace and peace,

OCC staff & leadership team

worship and message

The Coates are leading us today and pastor Mike is speaking,

To explore this a little more, take the time to watch:
A lament for love – The Great Divide
video by Dan Stevers

Martin Luther King Jr. said, “America has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality and humanity.
What is your response to this quote?

Mike said: “God is speaking to the church about what it means to bring the kingdom to our world.
How are you being challenged?
What is God calling you to do differently?

benediction

God, give us faith to believe the truth
And the courage to ask why

Give us joy in life’s fulfilment
And the courage to cry

God give us the strength to carry others
And the courage to ask for help

Give us grace towards holiness
And the courage to confess our guilt

Father show us a bigger picture

looking ahead

In John 21:1-14 (this is after the resurrection) some of the disciples of Jesus decided to go back to fishing – that’s what they knew – that’s what they were comfortable with.

In this time of so much change and upheaval, it is easy to want to go back to what we know, what we are comfortable with.

Here are a couple of questions: [I’d love to hear your responses in the comments]

  • As you reflect on what you have been learning about yourself and how you view life, in this season we are in right now, what do you want to bring with you into the “new normal” whatever that might look like?
  • As you reflect on what you have been learning about yourself and how you view life, in this season we are in right now, what do you want to have the courage to leave behind (maybe even repent of) as we step into a “new normal” following the one who promises to be with us, as he leads?
