Prayer – August 11

We live in a world that in some senses is not much different than that in Isaiah’s day. May the people in our world see sin as Isaiah saw it.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who put darkness for light and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Isaiah 5:20

Prayer – 10 August

Pray that we will live in a way that shows our love for those in the family of God.

Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.
1 John 2:9-10

Prayer – 9 August

Paul tells the Thessalonians, and us, that we do not belong to the night or darkness but are people of the light. So let’s live knowing this.

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-6

Back Yard get-togethers

We are planning some casual, back yard get-togethers on Sunday, August 23 starting at 6:30 pm.

These will be outdoor, physically distanced opportunities for you to visit with others from OCC.

  • There will be wrapped frozen treats available (ice cream bars and frozen fruit bars) as well as bottled water and juice boxes.
  • Feel free to bring your own coffee or tea.

This will be a mystery get-together – you won’t know who else will be at your host home and we’ll send you the name of the host and their address a couple of days before the date.

  • We are planning for approximately 15 people per back yard so, in order to coordinate numbers, we would ask that you register via Eventbrite at the link below, or by calling the OCC office and leaving a message (705.329.2139).
  • For the Eventbrite registration, only one person per household should make the reservation and they will select the total number of people attending from your household (adults and children). Bring a lawn chair and plan for a great time catching up with those from your OCC family!

Register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/occ-summer-social-tickets-115904588745.
Just hit the “Register” button on the right side of the page, click the number attending and hit “Register.”

Prayer – Aug 8

Jesus used scripture in resisting the devil. Pray that we would be so rooted and grounded in the scriptures that we too can use it as we resist the devil and his dark schemes.

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
Matthew 4:4, 7, 10

Prayer – Aug 7

Pray that every believer (in OCC, Orillia, our world) would remember that our struggle is not against flesh and blood (people) but against spiritual powers.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6:12

Praying – Aug 6

Paul tells how Jesus sent him to the Gentiles so that their eyes would be opened, and they would turn from darkness to light. Pray that we would understand our role in partnering with God to help others turn from darkness to light.

I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.
Acts 26:17-18

Praying – Aug 5

Pray that as followers of Jesus we will live lives that children of the light… demonstrating goodness, righteousness and truth.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
Ephesians 5:8-9

Praying – 4 Aug

Lift up before the Lord someone you know who is walking in spiritual darkness. Pray that they will be drawn to the light of Jesus to be transformed.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
